Most people who buy new homes or live in apartments feel white walls and neutral colored carpet stymie their creativity. Some have a spouse who cringes at dark, deep colors on walls or on big patterns. Most people don’t have the budget to rip it all out and start over. We all need to find a way to coexist in our current environment, right?
Neutral décor does not have to be your enemy. Use the neutral tones for your advantage. Choose bedding that plays into the tonal theme and then pick your favorite color and POP that color in one place in your room. This could be played out in a simple flower arrangement on the bedside table. Maybe there is a special piece of furniture from your childhood or even from a grandparent that you could fashion as your centerpiece. Focus on creating an eye-appealing draw to that particular area. The drama that piece creates can warm the entire space.
Another way to brighten up a neutral area is to add a painting or wall piece to break up the monotony. This piece also does not need to cost a lot of money. You would be surprised what you can find on online garage sale sites or in consignment stores. Or, hey, why not buy a canvas and try your hand at creating your own art? You may be surprised at how you can pull it all together with an abstract painting. A framed and matted print from your child will also add a special touch.
Don’t let living in the neutrals get you down. Plan your bedding and accessories accordingly and you can have a striking bedroom plan.
