Maybe there is a special piece of furniture from your childhood or even from a grandparent that you could fashion as your centerpiece. Focus on creating an eye-appealing draw to that particular area. The drama that piece creates can warm the entire space.
Another way to brighten up a neutral area is to add a painting or wall piece to break up the monotony. This piece also does not need to cost a lot of money. You would be surprised what you can find on online garage sale sites or in consignment stores. Or, hey, why not buy a canvas and try your hand at creating your own art? You may be surprised at how you can pull it all together with an abstract painting. A framed and matted print from your child will also add a special touch.
